The holidays can be exciting, all the cooking, planning, gift giving and receiving… but the excitement nobody wants to experience is the car breaking down on the holiday trip.
Before you pack up the car to head home or visit friends for the holidays, remember to make sure that your vehicle is ready for the journey. A thorough inspection will help you avoid the inconvenience and possible safety hazards of breaking down miles away from home.
Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council reminds everyone “It’s easy to remember to get your family ready for the holiday festivities, but what about preparing the car that’s going to get you there?” Both John and Jim here at J’s Auto Service would like you to consider that having your car inspected will give you peace of mind as you travel and it will help make your journey safer.
Your friends at J’s have created a simple check list of the most common items that they inspect for travelers. It contains:
- tires and tire pressure
- hoses and belts
- air filters
- exterior and interior lighting
- fluid levels including engine oil, windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.
Planning for an inspection before your trip may seem like an unnecessary hassle but it helps reduce and often prevent the chance of costly and dangerous breakdowns while on the road or out of town.
John would also like to remind people that they should keep a list of important phone numbers in their cell phone or glove box in case of a breakdown or other travel emergency. You should always keep a roadside emergency kit in your vehicle with a first aid kit, tire jack, tire pressure gauge, jumper cables, blanket and flashlight inside.
John, Jim and the entire team at J’s Auto hopes that everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!
